Putting Life Back into Life Part 2

Putting Life Back into Life Part 2

GENERATIONAL LIABILITIES

The Bible says right in the Ten Commandments that the sins of the father can visit the children to the third and fourth generation. God is very clear that there is a DNA transfer at the birth of not just physical traits but in every other category, as well. These “generational curses” are very real and affect us every day. They are liabilities given at birth and can truly cripple a person at an early age if the debt from their forefathers is large enough. Some people never crawl out from underneath the damage their parents and grandparents have caused. Even though the power of Christ can set them free from the wages of that sin and give them eternal life, without knowing how to use the power of His blood, a believer can still find himself living a defeated life in addiction, depression, and anger. He came to give us life and life more abundantly here! Not just in heaven! He came to set us free of ALL our chains. The problem is we’re just not taught how to use the key He provided us to unlock the chains that bind us.

GENERATIONAL ASSETS

In contrast to generational liabilities, generational assets are all the positive things that are transferred to us from those who have gone before us. In the physical DNA, this can be everything from good looks, to stamina, to intelligence. On the emotional DNA, whatever your parents and grandparents did right is also passed down. If your parents had a peaceful marriage, there is a high likelihood that you were born with a high percentage of peace in your personality, as well. Like a royal lineage follows the physical bloodline, so the spiritual DNA is often passed down to the children. This is why you will oftentimes see multi-generational preachers, missionaries, and ministers in a single family. Like the anointing of prophets, anointing follows the bloodline. Do you want to find out if a person is truly anointed? Watch their children. If there is a real anointing, it will show up all over the next generation. Just like the enemy likes to pollute the next generation, Yahweh likes to pass His genes on, as well.

TRAUMA ASSETS

Trauma as an asset? Although this might sound like an oxymoron, it’s not. Traumas can be a huge asset in a person’s life. As a matter of fact, they are so used by God that He tells us to look forward to them!

James 1:2–4 “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials (traumas), knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, not lacking anything.” (parenthetical addition mine)

Bingo. Here we go. We are told that traumas, trials, and tribulations are designed for spiritual growth and are the primary instrument used to bring about such growth. Patience is what He’s after. When we have patience, we are forced by default to trust in Him. When we are trusting in Him, we get to see Him work on our behalf in the situation. When we get to see Him work on our behalf, our faith increases and we become mature and complete, not lacking anything. I have personally learned more from all the trials in my life than from all the books I have ever read combined. If the trial is viewed through the prism of His Word, what comes out is refined silver and purified gold.

TRAUMA LIABILITIES

Whereas God’s original intention for allowing trials and traumas to enter our lives is to train, equip, stretch, and grow us into who we were created to be, if not handled through the light of His Word, the very same trials can quickly become a liability. Take, for instance, a weight lifter who is working out on a bench press. He takes the barbell, lifts it off the rack, brings it down to his chest, then pushes it back up again. If done properly, the resistance becomes the very instrument to greater strength and resolve. But if he does not know how to grip the bar properly or does not face the resistance correctly, he could drop the bar and crush his chest. Thus the very instrument designed for good ends up becoming a tremendous liability. From that moment on, that trauma will have altered his “satellite” and it will be very difficult for him to ever look at lifting weights the same again. That negative experience created a sense of vulnerability which can lead to fear, which can lead to frustration, and even anger. Unfortunately, because most of us did not grow up in a biblically rich environment where these things were taught from the biblical worldview, all we think of when trauma strikes is how to survive it. We aren’t taught that these are allowed by God to teach us something and to help train us to get more out of life. We view them as negative because we fail to see the possible blessings that come from them if we handle them properly.

PERSONAL ASSETS

When I say personal assets, I am not referring to physical assets. What I am referring to is the personal seeds that each of us plants in our own lives. Even though we cannot control what is given to us generationally, and many times we cannot control the traumas and trials in our lives, we can control our own personal gardens. In other words, someone else may have tilled up the garden and planted a bunch of weeds, and a major storm could have come and damaged it further, but each of us is responsible for what we choose to plant in our own gardens. We can plant good seeds or bad seeds; the choice is up to us. When we choose to plant good seeds, those grow to become assets in our lives. This is where knowledge of the Word is critical. When someone chooses to forgive instead of hold onto bitterness, that is choosing to plant a good seed that will pay them back in dividends. The Bible says that when we choose to be merciful in our judgments of people, those seeds will come back as mercy when it’s time for people to judge us. When we keep His commandments, give to the poor, tithe into His kingdom, love our neighbor as ourselves, etc…all that plants good seeds that will bring a bountiful harvest. Personal assets aren’t just related to not sinning, they are connected to proactively doing good things with and for others. Love covers a multitude of sins and love is the foundation of all personal assets.

PERSONAL LIABILITIES

Whereas personal assets are defined as the actions we take that are in alignment with the scriptures, personal liabilities are the things we do that are in violation of the scriptures. 1 John 3:4 says that “sin is the transgression of God’s law.” When we sin against God and break His laws, statutes, and commandments – which are the marriage contract we agreed to when we came into a relationship with Him – we are planting seeds of rebellion in our garden of life. Those seeds will grow and choke out some of the fruit from the good seed that is also planted there. It will also produce poisonous fruit that will make us sick if we eat it.

Personal liabilities can be intentional or unintentional. We can know we are sinning and still do it and we can not know we are sinning even though it’s still called sin. People break laws in the United States all the time and go to jail because of it. And unfortunately, ignorance of the law is no excuse. Trust me. I know this one first hand. There is no way to tell the local judge, “Your Honor, I didn’t realize that I broke the law. My heart is good. I broke it unintentionally…” He will tell you exactly what he told me when I stood before him and said things similar to that: “Unfortunately, Mr. Staley, you should have known the law from our perspective. Our job is to enforce the laws and it is not our responsibility to inform each person what all the laws are for their particular business or situation. The responsibility is on the citizen’s shoulders to know the law.” This is exactly what our heavenly Father is going to say on Judgment Day. “Son, I wrote it down for you and made it very clear. Then I gave you tons of historical examples of people who broke those laws and showed you how serious it was. It’s not my fault that you bought into the deception that I did away with my instruction manual just because My Son died for your sins. I love you immensely, but there are still consequences for breaking my law, whether you realize it and agree with it or not.” When we sin, we are dropping seeds of death into our lives that will yield a negative harvest.

IT’S ALL ABOUT JURISDICTION

The enemy has no right to our lives without getting jurisdiction. This is why he had to deceive Eve first. He had no right to touch them. They had to give Satan the right to curse them. He does this by gaining jurisdiction. The Serpent understands God’s law better than all of us combined. He knows how to play the system and understands basic human behavior patterns and how to manipulate them. He understands what I am trying to convey to you right now. There are only three main areas he uses to gain jurisdiction to wreak his havoc. They are generational sins, trauma, and our own personal sins. His strategy is not to get you to sin or create a trauma to ruin your life and make you miserable. He is a long-term military strategist. He is trying to gain access to your mainframe DNA and damage it for the NEXT generation. If he can get you to be damaged from a trauma or from sin, he knows that you will bring a curse on yourself, thus starting the next generation off in serious debt. If he can start out the next generation already damaged, his work is infinitely easier.

With this in mind, what we want to do is find the areas of our lives where the enemy took jurisdiction and begin the process of taking it back. Some people might say, “How do I do that when I can’t go back in time to fix it?” I refer those people to the fact that Nicodemus asked the same question to Yeshua in John chapter 3 about being “born again.” Yeshua’s reply was that you may not be able to physically go back and enter your mother’s womb again, but you can in the spirit. And this is exactly what I’m talking about. Physically speaking, we can’t get in a time machine and go back to relive our lives or keep our parents from what happened to them, but we absolutely can in the Spirit because God is outside of time. Yahweh is looking down on the entire timeline and sees the beginning, present, and end all at the same time. It’s like being on top of a building and looking at a parade in the streets below. You can see it all at one time. When we discover all of our assets and liabilities, we can begin to deal with the liabilities and increase the assets at the root.

YOUR HOMEWORK

As we close out this section, what I always have those I am coaching do is to make a list of their whole family history, similar to the paperwork you would fill out at the doctor’s office. Write down everything you can think of about your parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. Did their marriages end in divorce? Was there any fornication or sexual sin? Were any children born out of wedlock? Was there any substance abuse? Did they fight? If so, about what? What was their religious background? What were all the traumas and sins that you know of? How was their relationship with their parents? How did they treat you and your siblings? What was life like growing up with your parents? You might have to make phone calls to parents or grandparents to gather information about your grandparents or great-grandparents. Do your homework. It will pay off.

Once you have the history completed you will turn to your own personal traumas. List every single negative experience you can think of that impacted you, no matter how small or large. Then list every major sin, struggle, or addiction that you have had in your life, whether you have conquered it or not. This won’t be a fun exercise, but the more detailed your list, the faster the healing comes. This is an audit. And audits are detailed and thorough by design. So take your time on this and don’t cheat. You will only be cheating yourself.

In part 3, I will begin to walk you through what to do with all that history and how to begin to make sense of all the data so that you can begin to change the formula for your good. There are few things more frustrating than knowing something is wrong with your car but having no idea what it is. On the other hand, it is a great feeling to find out exactly what the problem is and how to fix it. So be excited and move forward with faith and great expectation. We serve an incredible Lord who desires us all to be FREE! And it is the TRUTH that sets us free. Incredibly, no matter how ugly that truth may be, once it is brought to the surface, it will be the instrument He’ll use to unlock your shackles and put you on your way to fulfilling your destiny!

Shalom,
Jim Staley
